Exploring DTF and White Toner Printers: A Comparative Guide
Welcome to the ultimate guide on DTF (Direct to Film) and White Toner Printers! If you’ve been exploring options for high-quality, versatile printing solutions, this comprehensive overview will help you understand the key differences, advantages, and potential applications of both technologies. Based on a detailed webinar by Heat Transfer Warehouse, let's dive into the insights shared by industry experts RJ and Patrick.
Introduction to DTF and White Toner Printers
DTF Printers: DTF technology allows printing on a special film, which is then transferred to various substrates using a powder adhesive and heat. These printers are gaining popularity due to their ability to produce vibrant, detailed prints on different materials.
White Toner Printers: White Toner Printers, such as the Creo 8432, use a combination of white toner and CMYK toners to print on a variety of surfaces. They are known for their no-maintenance design and versatility, making them suitable for a wide range of applications beyond just textiles.
Strengths and Features
DTF Printers:
Vibrant and Durable Prints: DTF prints are known for their vivid colors and excellent elasticity. They perform well in stretch tests, maintaining their integrity without cracking.
Cost-Effective: The cost per print is generally lower than that of white toner prints, making DTF an economical choice for small to medium runs.
Versatility: Suitable for various substrates, including cotton, polyester, and blends, as well as hard surfaces like wood and metal.
White Toner Printers:
No Maintenance: One of the standout features is the lack of daily maintenance. You can print a batch, turn off the printer, and it will be ready for the next use even after a long period.
Wide Range of Materials: White toner technology allows printing on a variety of substrates, including dark and light fabrics, hard surfaces, and even heat-sensitive materials like balloons.
Ease of Use: The setup process is straightforward, and the printer comes with comprehensive support, including live training sessions and detailed guides.
Comparative Analysis
Speed:
White Toner Printers: Faster when printing multiple sheets, producing up to 20-30 sheets per minute.
DTF Printers: Slower, especially in desktop models, as they typically produce one print every 5-10 minutes.
Maintenance:
White Toner Printers: Minimal to no daily maintenance required.
DTF Printers: Require daily maintenance, including cleaning print heads and ensuring proper ink circulation.
Cost:
White Toner Printers: Higher initial investment but offers quick ROI with high productivity and versatile application range.
DTF Printers: Lower upfront cost, making them accessible for smaller businesses or startups.
Application Range:
White Toner Printers are ideal for short to medium runs and can print on both garments and hard surfaces.
DTF Printers: Best for garment printing, with some capability for hard surface printing, although with limitations.
Practical Demonstrations and Use Cases
During the webinar, the experts showcased the process of printing on both light and dark garments using DTF and white toner printers. They highlighted the ease of use, the quality of prints, and the difference in handling various substrates. The Creo 8432, for instance, was demonstrated printing on a red polyester shirt without any color bleed, a common issue with high-temperature transfers.
Conclusion
Both DTF and White Toner Printers offer unique advantages, and the choice between them depends on your specific needs and business goals. If you prioritize low maintenance, high versatility, and faster production, a white-toner printer like the Creo 8432 might be the right fit. On the other hand, if you're looking for a cost-effective solution with excellent print durability and elasticity, DTF printers are worth considering.
Special Offers and Support
Heat Transfer Warehouse offers a range of financing options and warranties for both DTF and white toner printers, ensuring you have the support you need. Additionally, purchasing a printer through them grants you access to consumable discounts and comprehensive training resources.

I can’t believe how clear and concise this is. So many videos that have confused me with so much technical stuff!! Thank you for this video!!!
We are glad you found our video helpful! Thank you for watching!
That's very cute!
Thank you! 😊
Great job, Very concise, cutting through red tape!
@heattransferwarehouse My drawer is too loose how do I tighten it?
Please message into customer service on Monday.
I'm a fan of your UA-cam channel. I'm curious, can your dtf machine print images of persons onto shirts? If so will it be high quality?
Yes we can it is great quality.
Under headwear your website states "no ganging of artwork" but you promote gang sheet in this video?
In this video, we discuss Supacolor Wearables Screen Print Transfers, Supacolor Blocker Screen Print Transfers, Supacolor Soft Shell Screen Print Transfers, and Supacolor Headwear Transfers. You can gang Supacolor Wearables, Supacolor Blockers, and Supacolor Soft Shell Transfers, but Supacolor Headwear Transfers are not available as gang sheets. Supacolor explains that Headwear Transfers are already economically priced, with 4.7" x 2.8" sheets costing $2.97, compared to Supacolor Wearables at 4" x 4" for $4.20 as a comparison. That is why they do not offer the Headwear Transfers as gang sheets. I hope this helps!
I can see you
No rain here in Missouri today
Okay, so here is the ultimate question - I noticed you are wearing two tee shirts with the white one on. I've ordered quite a few blanks and the problem I'm seeing is that as a female, I can't see to find a white tee that will work with sublimation that isn't see through. Unless you wear two tee shirts.
Unfortunately, this can be a common issue when working with polyester garments as they tend to be thinner and lower quality. If you are having trouble finding quality polyester garments to sublimate with, I would recommend trying DTF transfers on a thicker cotton blend!
What type of laser is this? Can you engraver with it?
This is the Flux Beambox Laser Cutter: www.heattransferwarehouse.com/flux-beambox-40w-laser-cutter/! You can engrave wood, leather, carboard, acrylic, and rubber with it!
So..... hypothetically how would one, idk press on a pair of flip flops🤔
I would recommend testing with PoliFlex Turbo Low Temp on flip-flops since it requires minimal heat to adhere to multiple different materials: www.heattransferwarehouse.com/poli-flex-turbo-low-temp-12/!
👉💯💯💯
Thank you
Thank you very much. Great job Just got mine in the mail
We are glad to hear you got you received your mug press, Tony! If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out. We appreciate your business and support. Enjoy your new press!
how do you get it to start cutting where the blade is on the machine?
The camera sits to the left of the blade so in order to find and scan the material it needs to move slightly to the right which is why there is the margin on the cutting mat giving you a 12" wide cut space!
I bought a sawgrass sg500 from u and can’t get it to link via WiFi to my computer. I have tried to call u and never get through is there a number for technical services. Ty in advance for any help u can offer.
Hello! If you haven't created a ticket with Sawgrass, I would do that! Go to SawgrassInk.com and click on the pink "help" button. Then type in "ticket" to create a support request with them. They also have a bunch of support blogs that may be helpful! You can also reach us at 888-819-4421 or customerservice@heattransferwarehouse.com!
Can the white toner print metallic colors?
No, the white toner printer cannot print metallic colors by itself. However, there are some specialty inks and papers that you can get that allow your white toner printer to be able to print metallic depending on what white toner printer you purchase.
I have some, but I’ve been afraid to use it because I have not had much success with puff HTV. Now, I think I’ll go ahead and try. I will go back to the drawing board and try the regular puff HTV and see if I can get a good result. Thank you for sharing!!! 🌹
We're thrilled to hear that you're giving Puff HTV another try! It can be a bit tricky, but with the right approach, you can achieve fantastic results. To help you out, we have a blog post that includes tips and tricks on how to use Puff Vinyl: www.heattransferwarehouse.com/blog/walakut-puff-htv-tips-and-tricks/. The blog post specifically mentions WALAKut Puff, but most of the principles are the same for Siser Puff besides the application settings! If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. Happy crafting!
Not even a full season on some uv dtf images on my glass window is showing a couple cracks? Same with my paintings causing cracks with tranfers. Wish it was as flexible as standard dtf.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with UV DTF images and transfers. UV DTF tends to be less flexible than standard DTF due to the nature of UV-curable inks, which can lead to cracking, especially on surfaces where flexibility is required. For applications where flexibility is crucial, standard DTF might be a better option. If you'd like, we can discuss alternative solutions that might better suit your needs. Please feel free to reach out to our customer service team for further assistance at customerservice@heattransferwarehouse.com!

Thanks for posting. Do you have a video on how to come up with the middle and bottom burger templates for the tumbler?
We currently don't have an official template for this project. To achieve our results, we experimented by using paper towels as a malleable template. We recommend starting with a similar approach and adjusting as needed. Thanks for your understanding, and happy crafting!
Excellent presentation! Please continue posting.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We will definitely keep posting more content. Stay tuned for more!
Why put that background in when it just looks like a flat background? Wouldn’t it be better to put the hat image in a real life looking setting instead? Like being worn by someone outdoors?
This example is just one option among many for showcasing products! Placing the hat in a real-life setting outdoors is also a great way to market this product.
Excellent info!!! Thank you so very much!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙
You are so welcome!
If i started with sister easy subli ink , can i change my ink to easy jet sawgrass ink . Because sister easy ink is so expensive
Hello! You can, but it is not recommended. This is because it voids your Sawgrass warranty to switch inks from EasySubli to SubliJet. If you do decide to do it, make sure to do a full flush of your lines. This ultimately is hard on your lines and your printhead as well, so it is best to stick with the ink you have started with!
How well does this hold up if used on an outdoor sign that will face the weather?
If you coat your wood with Polyurethane, this should protect it from the weather outside your home!
are these plain or sublimation glasses
Hello! These are frosted sublimation glasses!
How're you guys printing on the triblends without scorching the rayon? I've attempted this on a triblend am getting stuck with a distinct shine and platen shaped box where the heat press came down and am not sure what adjustments to make to avoid it.
Hello! I would recommend starting on lower temperatures and bumping up the heat slowly as you go along, using less heat is going to be better on a blend with rayon! I would also avoid using too much pressure, as this can cause some scorching. I would also recommend the use of heat press pillows (www.heattransferwarehouse.com/heat-press-pillows-1/) and heat press teflon sheets (www.heattransferwarehouse.com/heat-press-teflon-release-sheets/) if you are not already using them. These materials help to disperse heat and pressure evenly, which assist in eliminating press marks. I hope you find this helpful! If you have any other questions, you can always reach out to our customer service team at customerservice@heattransferwarehouse.com!
Did you add powder and cure in oven first?
Hello! When we make our DTF transfers, yes. We print the design onto a PET film using our DTF printer. Once printed, the ink is covered with a hot melt adhesive powder with a powder shaker. This is crucial for enhancing ink adhesion during the transfer, improving print quality, promoting transfer accuracy, and preventing the ink from bleeding. Then, the DTF Film is cured in the curing oven to dry and set the ink. Curing ensures the ink adheres to the film to prevent smudging or bleeding during the heat transfer.

Hello! Yes, you can seal the wood with polyurethane to weatherproof it for the outdoors!

Did you have to use powder and oven first before adding design to tumbler? What paper was used? Please advise
Hello! These are our Custom Full Color DTF Transfers. They do not require any of the above, they come ready to press! You can find these transfers here: www.heattransferwarehouse.com/walakustom-full-color-dtf-transfers/! All you need to do is upload your artwork and we make the transfers for you!
I just bought a DTF printer and oven. So I'm asking if for these prints , was powder ond curing done before tge cup press. Thank you so much 💓
Hello! Yes, we do use a shaker from DTF Station to evenly disperse hot melt adhesive powder over our prints. After they have been through the shaker, we do use a curing oven to dry and set the ink!
